With back to school upon us, an increase in social media use often comes with it. The Safe and Inclusive Schools Itinerants with NLESD have tips, video links and other resources available to help families navigate this digital world. Some fun educational activities to do with your kids!
Play cards
Interview a family member
Measure the length/width of your bedroom and other rooms in your house
Graph the weather everyday (how many days is it sunny, snowing, cloudy, etc.?)
Write about how social distancing is making you feel
Make shadow puppets
Make up your own game (use your imagination!)
Play outside (build a fort, shovel, etc.)
Do chores
Help prepare meals
Bake something and follow a recipe
Practice multiplication/division facts
Make a craft
Clean and organize your bedroom
Make a blanket fort
Make telephones out of paper cups and string and talk to your siblings in the other room
Put your books in alphabetical order
Call a grandparent or older relative. Ask them about their childhood. What would they have done in this situation when they were your age?
Make a family tree
Write your own song about multiplication or any topic!
Design and build puppets that perform a show
Learn 10 new big words (what they mean and how to spell them!)
Draw a map of your home
Draw a venn diagram comparing two people (family members, friends, favourite characters)
If you have stairs, walk up and count them. Walk down and count by twos. Walk up and count by threes, continue until you get to 10s! See how long you can keep going!
Classify and sort 20 of your favourite toys (ex. By color, by size, by material)
Create and use a secret code
Build 3 different types of paper airplanes. Test them and see how far they can fly!
Learn 3 new jokes and tell them to your family members
Go for a walk
Play board games
Learn something new (Ex. how to sew, how to do yoga, how to fix something)
Create a treasure map and see if someone in your family can figure it out.
Complete a scavenger hunt! Who in your family can be the first to find all of the items on the list?
Have a dance party in your living room!
