Attendance

School attendance is an important factor in a child's educational progress. We encourage high student attendance by presenting certificates to students with perfect attendance. Parents can help by stressing to their children the importance of good attendance.

Parents should be aware that:

A child may only be excused from school because of illness or some other acceptable cause.

The school may require a doctor's certificate to verify illnesses.

It is the parents' responsibility to ensure that the child attends school on a regular basis.

We would ask for assistance and cooperation from parents. When a child is absent from school, the home is asked to:

Telephone the school the morning that the child is absent. Each morning, the school attempts to telephone parents of an absent child to ensure that he/she did not leave for school and not arrive. If a child is to be absent, a call from home will lessen the number of calls the school has to make.

Send a written note of explanation to school with the child when he/she returns. This note is a legal requirement under the Schools Act of Newfoundland and Labrador.
